| When is tutoring offered? Tutors' schedules vary greatly with demand, so please call the main office to discuss specific times. Jamie tutors between the hours of 9am and 11pm Monday through Thursday; 9am and 6pm Friday; and 8am and 3pm Saturday. For availability of other tutors, please call the main office. Where does the tutoring take place? Most tutoring sessions take place at our office on Westbank Drive. However, tutors may be available to meet students at other locations for an additional charge. How often should a student meet with his tutor? Although the number of tutoring sessions needed for standardized exam preparation does depend on the strength of the student and the improvement necessary to reach the score goal, students typically meet for 100 minutes per week for the five months leading up to the exam. Students receiving academic tutoring should meet as often as is necessary to maintain their preferred level of achievement. Do I have to commit to a certain number of tutoring sessions? No. Although it is generally true that more tutoring sessions produce greater score improvements, there is no minimum requirement for the number of sessions. We do strongly suggest, however, that students meet for the five months leading up to their exam. Do you ever tutor more than one student at a time? When two students are well matched academically, a tutor may allow them to attend sessions together. In these cases, each student pays a reduced rate. What sort of score improvement can I expect for my child? Can you guarantee a certain score improvement? Score improvements are heavily dependent upon numerous influences, including those both expected (amount of preparation, willingness to study, etc.) and unexpected (amount of sleep prior to test, distracting factors within the test room, etc.). Because of this dependency, we do not guarantee a certain score improvement. However, our tutors will do their absolute best to prepare each student for those circumstances that are under our control. To that end, they have demonstrated a high rate of effectiveness with improving test scores. How much experience do your tutors have? Jamie has been tutoring full-time since 2001, when he was extensively trained by the director of Advantage Testing of Houston, Inc., Dr. Jay Resh (for more information, please visit http://www.advantagetesting.com and click on the link for Houston). Jennifer joined Advantage Testing in September of 2005. She was also thoroughly trained by Dr. Resh. How is Advantage Testing Austin different from other tutoring programs? While many test preparation programs focus their efforts on group classes, Advantage Testing Austin tutors students one-to-one. This individual focus allows our tutors to easily identify and work with each student's strengths and weaknesses, making the time spent in tutoring more productive than it would be in a class setting. We also emphasize the underlying academic foundations of standardized exams over stratagems particular to a specific exam. While we do not ignore strategy, we believe that students can reach their greatest possible score only by honing the academic skills tested by the exams. To this end, we have compiled comprehensive study materials unmatched in our industry which are accessible to all of our students. |
